About Us

Binoculars Buying Guide is an independent website that helps people in the United States choose binoculars with confidence. Whether you are buying your first pair for the backyard bird feeder or upgrading for a safari, hunting trip or night under the stars, our goal is simple: explain what matters, in plain English, so you can make a good decision.

What we cover

  • Buying guides – shortlists of binoculars for specific activities, budgets and needs.
  • Binocular basics – what the numbers mean, how binoculars work, field of view, eye relief, exit pupil, prisms and coatings.
  • Comparisons – side-by-side looks at popular sizes such as 8x42 and 10x42, and at individual models.
  • Activities and wildlife – advice for birdwatching, hiking, boating, hunting, sports, travel and astronomy.
  • Brands – how the main binocular brands and their product lines differ.

How we research

Every guide starts with the questions buyers actually ask. We check specifications against manufacturer data, explain how derived figures such as exit pupil or field of view are calculated, and compare models on the features that matter for each use. Where we include opinions or experience, we say whose they are.

We would rather leave a figure out than guess it. If you spot an error, please tell us – we correct mistakes promptly.

Who writes our guides

You can read more about each writer, and see everything they have written, on their author page.

How the site is funded

Binoculars Buying Guide is free to read. We earn a commission when you buy through some of the links on our site, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never decide which products we recommend or how we describe them. Read our affiliate disclosure for details.
